JORGE CEPEDA TO COMPETE IN ASSOCIATED SCHOOLS OF CONSTRUCTION (ASC) COMPETITION!
Excited to announce that Jorge Cepeda (Weifield Estimator) will be competing in an Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) Competition in February, 2022!
Jorge is in a Master’s of Real Estate w/ Construction Management Emphasis program at DU, currently, and DU is participating in this competition — DU placed third in this competition last year. Jorge will join four others from his program to compete as a group in this competition; his group will be representing Clark Construction and will compete against two other student groups from Cal Poly and Stanford.
The goal of the competition is to provide the student groups with a common problem around an integrated project delivery method; groups then take one day to come up with a solution and turn it in, and then do a presentation on their solution the following day. (An integrated project delivery method is similar to design-build with a few differences as to when the parties involved are engaged, how many parties are engaged, and overall, it is a more collaborative effort as everyone involved has a vested interest in the project’s success)
The ASC competition is in Reno, NV on Thursday, 2/10/22 and Friday, 2/11/22. On Thursday, Jorge’s team (and also the Cal Poly & Stanford teams) will receive their ‘problem’ from the competition judges at 6:00 AM – and they have until 11:00 PM that day to come up with a solution and turn it in. The next day, Friday, they will have to do a formal presentation on their solution sometime between 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM. This presentation piece of the competition will be livestreamed – next week, we will be posting the link for the presentations so that we can watch Jorge in action, at the competition.
Jorge started his Master’s program in 2020 and will finish in 2023; he eventually wants to obtain a PhD in Construction and become a professor who will work & teach part-time. He is planning to do a similar DBIA competition in the future as well as an NAIOP competition.
Exciting stuff, Jorge – we’ll be watching and best of luck in your competition!
